― HOLISTIC HYPNOTHERAPY TRAINING
Frequently asked Questions
Choosing the right training is an important decision. We’ve put together answers to some of the questions we hear most often to help you decide if this programme is the right fit for you.
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses a naturally occurring state of focused awareness to access the subconscious mind. In this state, attention gently withdraws from external distractions and turns inward. You are not asleep, and you are not unconscious. You remain aware and in control, but your analytical and critical mind becomes quieter, allowing deeper layers of memory, emotion, and belief to become accessible.
In Holistic Hypnotherapy training, we use this focused state to safely and consciously access the subconscious patterns that shape our behaviour and create shifts to align a person to their desired outcome. We take clients through structured, personalised journeys to visualise and affirm their desired state, release blockages from the past, and address the root cause of their concerns. Many of our emotional reactions, anxieties, and recurring life patterns are driven by beliefs formed early in life, often outside of conscious awareness. Holistic Hypnotherapy allows these beliefs to be identified at their origin and restructured in a way that aligns with who the person is today, creating sustainable change rather than temporary relief.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a practical approach to understanding how we think, communicate, and create meaning from our experiences. It is based on the idea that our thoughts (neuro), language (linguistic), and behavioural patterns (programming) are interconnected. The way we internally represent events through images, sounds, feelings, and self talk shapes our emotional responses and behaviour.
NLP works by identifying these internal patterns and helping a person consciously change them. By shifting the language we use, our perspective, and the mental images we create, we can change the meaning attached to past experiences and create new behavioural choices. Rather than analysing a problem for long periods of time, NLP focuses on how the issue is structured in the mind and how to reorganise that structure to produce a different outcome.
In our training and sessions, NLP is integrated with Holistic Hypnotherapy to create deeper and more sustainable change, allowing both conscious insight and subconscious transformation to work together.
In a typical session, you will have an initial discussion with your therapist, experience a process to address your desired outcome, and then debrief. Our first role is to clearly identify your objective and gain some background on the issue. All behavior is governed by beliefs, and we work with the beliefs you have accumulated in the subconscious mind that are holding you back. Once we understand your desired outcome and current patterns, we will use our Holistic Hypnotherapy and NLP tools to help you process unfinished emotions, reframe events, and move you toward your desired outcome.
During our processes, the therapist gently guides you into a relaxed and focused state using breath awareness, mindfulness, and guided imagery. As the body relaxes, brainwave activity typically shifts from active beta waves toward slower alpha and theta waves, which are associated with deeper reflection and access to subconscious material. From this state, the therapist facilitates processes such as regression, emotional integration, and belief reframing. You may revisit formative experiences, explore emotional charges from the past, and update the meanings that were created at the time. The goal is not to relive the past, but to release unresolved emotions and transform the beliefs that were formed.
Sessions are collaborative and intentional, with the client actively engaged in the process throughout. During the debrief, the therapist will check in on what you have understood, and you will mutually witness the changes that occurred during the session. Most clients do see shifts straight away, sometimes in baby steps and sometimes as a complete transformation.
Hypnotherapy is a safe, evidence-informed, complementary approach that works with the mind‑body connection to support positive change. When practiced ethically and within professional standards, it can be highly effective for helping people develop healthier patterns, reduce stress, and build emotional resilience.
Permitted Scope of Hypnotherapy Practice
In alignment with leading hypnotherapy training institutes and professional associations, hypnotherapy may support clients with:
- Stress management and deep relaxation
- Anxiety management (non-acute, non-psychotic)
- Phobias and fears
- Habit change (e.g., smoking cessation, nail biting)
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Performance enhancement (academic, professional, athletic)
- Sleep improvement (non-medical insomnia)
- Motivation and goal achievement
- Weight management as a behavioral support tool
- Pain management techniques used alongside medical care
- Emotional regulation
- Trauma work within the practitioner’s level of training and where there is emotional stability
- Stress-related or psychosomatic conditions, in conjunction with appropriate medical supervision
Hypnotherapy is best understood as a complementary modality — it works alongside, not instead of, medical or psychological care when needed.
What hypnotherapy does not do
Your safety and wellbeing are our priority. Ethical hypnotherapists do not:
- Diagnose medical or psychiatric conditions
- Treat medical diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular or neurological disorders
- Replace medical, psychiatric, or psychological treatment
- Work with severe psychiatric conditions (such as active psychosis or acute suicidal risk) without appropriate referral
- Advise clients to stop prescribed medication
- Use hypnosis to influence legal testimony
- Attempt to “recover” memories without appropriate psychological qualifications
If a client presents with symptoms that fall outside a hypnotherapist’s scope of practice, referral to a qualified healthcare professional is always made.
Hypnotherapy can be used:
- As a complementary support to medical, dental, or psychological treatment
- As a behavioral and cognitive support tool
- As a relaxation and mind‑body regulation technique
We believe in collaborative care. When appropriate, and with client consent, hypnotherapy can work in harmony with other professionals to support overall wellbeing.

We follow internationally recognized ethical standards and comply with Hong Kong law. Hypnotherapy is offered as a complementary approach and does not replace medical, psychiatric, or psychological care unless the practitioner holds those specific qualifications and licenses.

Your wellbeing always comes first.

Hypnotherapy Private sessions
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to help individuals access their unconscious minds and make positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. A hypnotic state is “focused concentration” in which you are neither fully awake nor fully asleep so people can experience detachment to external attention and to focus on inner experiences. Hypnotherapy is a natural state of consciousness in which your logical and analytical faculties are reduced sufficiently, allowing deeper levels of your subconscious mind to be utilized for your health.
Hypnotherapy induces a trance-like state to help a person achieve a heightened state of relaxation and focus, where they can release their blockages and access their inner resources. In this state, you bypass the judgment of your critical filter and the barriers of your defense mechanisms. As a result, you are more open to suggestions, and you can access files of your subconscious mind where your belief systems are stored, and make adjustments in alignment with your desired changes.
A therapist will guide you into an altered state of consciousness, take you through various processes to release your suppressed emotions and change the way you have perceived your experiences so that you are more at peace and can create more empowering belief systems. A therapist typically uses visualizations, suggestions, imagery, and breathing to make the necessary changes.
When a person is in a hypnotic state, their eyes are closed, their eyeballs roll back, they breathe deeply, and their brainwaves change from beta to alpha, to theta.

Hypnotherapy Training
No. Based on official statutory guidance under the Education Ordinance (Cap. 279), specialized adult professional development programs fall outside the scope of formal school or tuition center registration. Consequently, there are no mandatory statutory caps on student numbers per cohort and no restrictions forcing tuition fees to be collected in equal monthly installments.
No. Cap. 493 applies only when a local Hong Kong entity awards a formal degree or diploma directly on behalf of an overseas university or institution. Our academy awards its own local completion certificate, which graduates use to independently apply for IMDHA/IACT international credentials.
No. The Department of Health’s voluntary Accredited Registers Scheme applies exclusively to five specific non-statutory professions (Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Audiologists, and Dietitians). Hypnotherapy does not fall under this scheme.
Consolidation: This question repeats content already included under “What hypnotherapy does not do.”
No. Hypnotherapists are not recognized as medical practitioners under Hong Kong law. You cannot diagnose, prescribe medication, or claim to cure or treat medical or psychiatric disorders. Services must be framed around complementary wellness, habit transformation, stress management, self-empowerment, and performance enhancement.
Under the Undesirable Medical Advertisements Ordinance (Cap. 231) and Trade Descriptions Ordinance (Cap. 362), practitioners cannot advertise that hypnotherapy “cures,” “treats,” or “alleviates” medical/psychiatric conditions. Marketing must focus strictly on subconscious mind mechanics, stress reduction, habit transformation, and performance enhancement.
This program meets the 220-hour educational requirements for certification with two major U.S.-based international bodies:
IMDHA (International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association): Requires a minimum of 220 hours of structured hypnotherapy training.
IACT (International Association of Counselors and Therapists): Requires 220+ hours of hypnosis training, including at least 110 hours of interactive classroom instruction.
No. While IMDHA and IACT provide professional structure, ethical frameworks, and global credentialing, association membership does not override local statutory laws or jurisdictional regulations. Practitioners are responsible for maintaining compliance with the local laws and insurance standards of wherever they practice.
Yes, provided it is truthfully granted by an accredited training body. Because hypnotherapy is not a state-restricted title in Hong Kong, you can use credentials awarded by your certifying organization. However, you must always maintain a non-medical scope of practice and include clear client disclaimers indicating that your services are complementary and do not replace licensed medical or psychiatric care.
Students have 1 year from the date of completing Level 5 training to submit their required case studies. If an extension is needed, students may refresh Level 5 (up to a maximum of two times) to receive a 1-year extension per repeat.

We comply with Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) and take reasonable steps to protect personal information, session notes, and client or student records.
Confidentiality may only be broken when required by law or when there is a serious ethical duty to protect safety. This may include situations where:
- The client presents a real and imminent risk of serious harm to themselves.
- The client presents a real and imminent risk of serious harm to another identifiable person.
In such cases, only the necessary information will be disclosed to the appropriate person, authority, or emergency service in order to reduce risk and protect safety.
Under Section 59 of Cap. 486 and professional ethical codes, confidentiality is legally waived and authorities must be notified in the following scenarios:
Danger to Self/Others: Imminent threat of harm or danger to the client or another person.
Abuse/Neglect: Apparent, suspected, or potential abuse or neglect of a child or elderly person.

We follow a structured three-tiered assessment protocol based on intent, means, plan, and timeframe:
Passive Ideation (No plan/intent): We use grounding and stabilization techniques, create a written safety plan, encourage contact with a trusted support person, monitor closely, and provide 24-hour hotline resources (TWGHs Suicide Crisis Intervention Centre: 2382 0000 or Samaritan Befrienders: 2389 2222). No external reporting is required.
Active Ideation (No clear plan/timeframe): We conduct a thorough risk assessment, apply ego-strengthening techniques, build a collaborative safety plan, consider increasing session frequency, and refer if risk escalates. No automatic external report is required.
Active Plan + Means + Timeframe (Emergency): Treated as an immediate emergency. We inform the client of our duty to act for safety, contact emergency services (999 Police/Ambulance), stay with the client until help is engaged, and assist transfer to the nearest Hospital Authority A&E Department.
Threat to an Identifiable Person (Serious violence): If a client expresses serious, imminent intent with capacity to act, we assess imminence, inform the client that disclosure is required for safety, document thoroughly, and notify the Hong Kong Police Force (999 for emergency, or 2527 7177 for non-emergency).
Child Abuse or Neglect: If there are reasonable grounds to suspect a child is at serious risk of abuse or neglect, practitioners must not investigate independently. We document all observations/statements, inform the client of the duty to protect unless unsafe to do so, and report to the Social Welfare Department Hotline (2343 2255), the official Reporting Platform (www.mrr.gov.hk), or 999 in emergencies.
Practitioners may consult senior supervisors or present case studies for educational purposes, provided all personally identifiable information is completely removed to maintain strict client anonymity.
