The only way to truly deal with a situation is to face it, and the only way to deal with emotions is to feel them. Granted, we are facing things beyond our control with the 5th wave in Hong Kong. Yet, this situation is a part of our reality, and the only thing we have control over is our response to it. If you are feeling emotional, get that it’s normal and it’s okay. We are supposed to have emotions. Yet, we don’t need to get overtaken by them or suppress them.
The healthiest way to experience life is to get in touch with your thoughts and feelings, acknowledge your truth, and allow yourself to feel your emotions without suppressing or being righteous about them. When you do this, you are zoning inwards and processing your thoughts and feelings, which prevents these feelings from getting stuck in your body. Once they pass through, you can zoom out and connect back to the big picture where you can face the choices you do have. You do have the choice over your perception, thoughts, and actions. We can see around us that some people are exercising the choice to leave town, while some are choosing to surrender. It doesn’t matter what choice you make, what matters more is the state of mind from which you are choosing. If you are feeling like a victim, you will take the helplessness and anger with you no matter what you choose. If you can accept the situation and process your emotions, then you will feel in charge, and the choices you make will bring you peace. The way to reach this peace is to practice acceptance, move away from ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, and make space for how you feel.
